One of the challenging things about a wilderness season is that we never really know when it’s going to end. It can seem like forever, but we must remind ourselves that God is not punishing us; instead, He is preparing us for what’s on the other side of our wilderness.
Please understand this important truth that I mentioned last week. You are not experiencing the wilderness because you did something wrong, you are in the wilderness because the Holy Spirit led you there to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands (Deuteronomy 8). Jesus’ wilderness experience confirms this as He was tempted in every way by the devil to abandon God’s commands, but resisted because his trust in God’s word was greater than the devils best test.
So what happens when you pass the test of the wilderness?
Understanding the WHY of your wilderness determines WHAT you bring out on the other side with you.
Luke’s account of Jesus’ wilderness experience says that when the devil departed, then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.
This is encouraging news for us as believers because the fact is what you return from the wilderness with, is greater than what you went in with.
After a wilderness season you should notice a greater authority and an increase of the anointing that leads you to experience greater power flowing from you life. Not just ministry life, but everyday life.
- You may be walking through a wilderness in your marriage. There is greater intimacy on the other side!
- You may be in the middle of a financial drought. There is financial peace on the other side!
- You may be wondering about God’s plan for your life. There is clarity of purpose on the other side!
- You may feel that everything is resisting you at this very moment. There is a reward on the other side!
God not only increases power on your life when you come out of the wilderness, He increases your influence. Luke tell us “news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.” What God releases to you following your wilderness season is just not for you, it’s for those all around you. Think about it for a moment. What you emerge from the wilderness with is not to be kept to yourself. God gives you increase so you can release it in greater measure.
One last thing I want to leave you with from Matthew’s account of Jesus’ wilderness experience, and something I personally received after my wilderness season. God refreshes you after the resistance you’ve encountered in the wilderness.
Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. – Matthew 4:11
I know we can minimize minimize the supernatural happenings of the above verse but the truth is your wilderness is a supernatural journey that is rewarded with supernatural ministry to you not just through you.
As and encouragement and testimony of God’s faithfulness I’ll wrap up this post with this. I recently emerged from a prolonged wilderness. I was exhausted and longing for a vacation I couldn’t afford! To my surprise God laid it on someones heart to pay for an entire vacation for my family. That had never happened before, but I believe it was God’s way of rewarding and refreshing me as my wilderness came to an end.
What you return from the wilderness with, is greater than what you went in with. I’m looking forward to hearing how God increases you on the other side!
