From a reader’s perspective the introduction of Sandcastle King set my expectations really high, but I must say I was a little disappointed with how the rest of the book read. The intro you could tell was well written, thought provoking, and really caused me to want to dig into the book.
The other chapters felt like (and I could be wrong) poorly transcribed sermons. Now I want to say the content is great and I thought it targeted a new believing Christian. Honestly, I was distracted by what I thought was a sermon playing in the background of my mind as I read this book. After a while I found it very hard to pick up an read. From a preaching perspective I think it would be a great book to do a message series around.
I do think Rich Wilkerson Jr. is a great pastor and speaker and there are plenty of nuggets and insight in this book, but I just think there is big difference between authoring a book and transcribing sermons into a book. It can be done well, but I couldn’t get past some of the way this book was structured to really enjoy it.
What are your thought about sermons that are transcribed into books?
