“I can’t catch a break” has flowed from my lips on many occasions. These words of frustration are common to us all whether it’s an unforeseen expense during the already tightly budgeted holiday season, or denied the promising opportunity that seemed like a sure thing. Whatever it is, not catching a break feels like every thing you do, every move you make, every chance you take; somehow ends up being thwarted and resulting in a whole lot of nothingness.
A few weeks ago these words flowed from my lips again and it bothered me. I think it bugged me more this time around because I wasn’t doing anything about it. When I was younger I hated playing “tag” because I could never catch anyone. I was “IT” forever. I was slow and overweight and my friends were super fast, or maybe I was just super slow. In either case back then I couldn’t do much about my speed, so instead of getting faster I had to get smarter. Instead of trying to chase them down by running directly behind them, I would anticipate their movements and get close enough to tag them by taking better angles.
I realized when it comes to catching a break, I’ll never catch one by chasing it, so when the phrase fell out of my mouth I tried taking a different angle, prayer. I wrote a simple prayer for those that need a break, but can’t catch one. Maybe you feel as though your spiritual life isn’t up to speed and you aren’t deserving of your deepest desire. Well, I think you and I are both deserving of the break we are believing for.
Here is a simple prayer I wrote that you can pray and agree with:
Lord I am praying for a break! Forgive me for trying to catch on my own, what I can’t catch without You. Today I’m need a new angle. I am praying for a break to burst forth in my life. I specifically pray for something to emerge, something to start abruptly. Lord I need something to shift in my life. I’m asking that the thing I need to happen would come about suddenly and that even in the delay there would be delight. I’m petitioning you for a break that initiates true success. That the break you bring would begin to open my life up to the things you have planned for me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
I hope you catch your break through prayer by embracing a God who will give you better angles to take in apprehending what you are going after.
Let me know if you catch your break!
